Residents told to replace their old vehicles
In South Africa, not everyone owns a brand new car and a lot of people will hang on to their old cars for as long as possible. But in this particular neighbourhood in New Zealand, your old car would be considered a risk to the value of the property around you.
Two New Zealand neighbours living in an upmarket street received an anonymous notice instructing them to replace their old, shabby vehicles in order to meet the standards of the road they live on.
According to the letter, Flotilla Place (a neighbourhood near Wellington, NZ) is a “sought after residential location” and residents are expected to uphold certain standards so that neighbours are able to sell their properties for the price they’re wanting.
The letter read as follows:
Dear Resident
Flotilla Place is a sought after residential location and all residents have a responsibility to uphold certain standards. It has been noted that a vehicle that falls well short of such standards is permanently parked at your address. There are properties being marketed in the street currently and vehicles like yours could have a negative impact on the price that your neighbours will be able to achieve for their properties. It is recommended that you consider a plan to replace your vehicle.

The bizarre, anonymous notice was reposted by one of the residents to a community Facebook page and has since been circulating the internet world-wide.
According to the Daily Mail UK, the picture of the notice was captioned, “Could the person who put this note in my letterbox please clarify which ‘unsuitable vehicle’ needs to be replaced?”
Residents seemed to have maintained a sense of humour about the notice and further commented by asking: “Is it the 2013 Peugeot, the bit (shabby) 2003 Mazda 6, or the (well shabby) red van belonging to the landscaper who has been here a bit?”
