Is ”i-Road” the future of public transport?
The French that live in the city of Grenoble can now look forward to a quicker, more comfortable commute to work thanks to the innovative Toyota production- The i-Road.
All you do is you whip out your smartphone and with an app, you can see the available Toyota i-Roads at your usual stop. In a few clicks, you reserve and pay. Another app can also allow you to see the status of traffic and public transport before you leave, so you can plan the best route that day.
The Toyota i-Road is a two-seater, 3-wheel scooter-type car with Active Lean technology. It’s very compact and combines the exceptional handling of a motorcycle or a scooter with the comfort and stability of a car. This is also a much more ”eco-friendly” option than a normal car as four i-Roads occupy the footprint of a single car.
For us South African citizen this seems like ”transport of the future”, but this is an actual reality that will be in full working motion from October this year in Grenoble. The idea is to commute without the stressful and time-consuming buses, trains and trams.
