Warning to those who post about roadblocks
The Citizen has reported that individuals who post messages on facebook telling people the whereabouts of police during roadblocks could be charged with defeating the ends of justice.
Northglen News reports that Durban police have “taken issue” with the new trend and will be taking further action if caught.
Police spokesperson Captain Raymond Deokaran said, “People who are posting messages warning others of roadblocks could be charged with defeatig the ends of justice if caught.”
He added that police have seen the announcements made over Facebook and Whatsapp groups at local bars and pubs.
“This does not solve the problem, it lets people know about roadblocks and encourages some potentially-dangerous drivers to get behind the wheel.
“Social media can be a valuable asset, but not if it’s used to undercut the law. We hold roadblocks to try to get dangerous people off the road.”
“We will be conducting several more roadblocks in the lead up to and during the festive season. In the last six roadblocks, 84 people have been arrested for drunk driving. I understand people want to unwind, however, not when it endangers other road users. This is a warning to drivers: If you do decide to drive intoxicated, you will be arrested, no excuses.”
