A single Tesla Model X is being brought to South Africa next week by sustainable tech company, Rubicon.

In an interview with MyBroadband, director of Rubicon Energy & E-Mobility, Greg Blandford said they will be using the car to promote the Tesla Powerwall which is available in the country.

No Tesla cars are available in South Africa, so this arrival is exciting despite not being available for purchase.

“The arrival of our Model X gives South Africans the opportunity to see up close what an electric future looks like, and to experience high-performance electric vehicles and the technology showcased within the Tesla Model X for the first time,” said Blandford.

The Model X is renowned for safety and speed. The electric SUV can go from 0-100km/h in 2.7 seconds in Ludicrous Mode. It also has an impressive range, with 491km on the clock before needing another charge.

Elon Musk has previously commented on the arrival of Tesla in South Africa. Replying to a query on Twitter, he explained that they do want to expand into the country but first need to navigate the high import taxes and other price impediments.
