The bubble is back

There has been many a futuristic film where the mode of transport predicted for the future is a one-man bubble car that flies around giving off no emissions. Now, VW are bringing out a modern, eco-friendly bubble car for one person.

This car is an adaptation of the old three-wheeler BMW Iso Isetta (see picture), which was originally brought out in 1960 after the 1957 Suez Crisis sent fuel prices sky-high. The new model car has evolved into the future with four wheels and the ability to run off electricity. Although this car may not be practical for families, it’s certainly practical for the singleton travelling to work who, like the majority of us, can’t stand the toll of pricey petrol.

Although the car will not be able to race the Porsche 911 or the Ferrari, it will be faster than previous bubble cars, reaching a rumoured top speed of 65kph. Not too bad for an electric vehicle (but admittedly not the best for motorway driving). The car is to be unveiled in early September 2011 so watch this space!
