Porsche fanatics can barely contain their excitement with the new 911 GT3 model on its way to South African shores.

The GT3 will reach 0-100km/h in 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 318km/h. This speedster is already being referred to as a “purist” sports car because it offers Porsche’s one-of-a-kind seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission. The six-gear manual version is also available, and the German manufacturer says the difference is barely noticeable.

Andreas Preuninger, head of Porsche’s GT products said: “The funny thing is you have to look really closely to see whether it’s a manual or PDK. You need access to the footwell, really. We know many of our customers like the manual shifting action on the stick with PDK, too. I like to do it,” he said according to Top Gear.

Take a look at how the unique PDK gearbox works:

This lightweight beauty comes with a 4.0-litre six-cylinder boxer engine and is turbocharger-free, another nod to the “purists”. Some even refer to it as a roadworthy track car as the engine is that of the 911 GT3 Cup racing car with revs reaching 9,000rpm.

The interior does not stand back for mechanics either.  The selectable track screen displays the relevant driving data for the race track like tyre pressure, g-force, stopwatch, water temperature and oil temperature upon request.

Always performance-driven, the aerodynamic swan neck spoiler can adjust to four different settings, leading to a staggering 60% more downforce than the older 911 GT3. However, there will be a wingless option too.

“We can definitely imagine the car without a rear spoiler, that works pretty well too,” Preuninger said. “So yes, there will be a Touring version later in the year for the driver who isn’t hunting track days every weekend and who wants to more clandestinely drive a GT car.”

The much-anticipated 911 GT3 is expected to land in the fourth quarter of this year.
