The new powerful Land Rover Defender V8 will come to South Africa

Land Rover has launched its new powerful Defender V8 as part of a range of enhancements to its award-winning 4X4 line-ups.

The new 396 kW Defender V8 and flagship Defender V8 Carpathian Edition offers performance, capabilities, new features of driver engagement and can go off-road too.

Its engine joins the latest range of petrol, diesel and Plug-in Hybrid Land Rover powertrains. There is also a new XS Edition with exterior design packs providing personalisation and an optional larger 11.4-inch Pivi Pro infotainment system.

The new Defender is developed with suspension and transmission tuning making it the fastest, dynamic Defender yet.

Its personalisation has expanded, introducing new exterior packs, the Bright Pack, Extended Bright Pack and Extended Black Pack feature.

The Bright Pack features a Chrome finish for the front and rear skid plates and a Chrome Grille bar and badging. The Extended Bright Pack, adds Ceres Silver to the lower body cladding and wheel arches available on all Defender models.

Defender X, Defender X-Dynamic and Defender V8 customers can choose the new Black Pack, providing a black finish front and rear skid plates, grille bar, bonnet, lower body and wheel arches.

David Hemming, Chief Product Engineer, Jaguar Land Rover, said: “The introduction of our V8 powertrain adds a new dimension of driving engagement and off-road capability to Defender. Fast and fun to drive, it represents the pinnacle of the Defender family and is as rewarding on the road as it is capable of it. We’ve also broadened the appeal of the entire Defender line-up with new derivatives, option packs and enhanced connectivity, so there really is a Defender for everyone.”

The Defender V8 supercharged engine is available in 90 and 110 body designs. It has a 5.0-litre V8 supercharged petrol engine mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox, delivering 386 kW with 625 Nm of torque.

Its top speed is 240 km/h with fuel consumption of 14.5l/100 km. It boasts an off-road capability with its new dynamic program within the Terrain Response system only available on V8 Defenders.

The model has quad exhausts and 22-inch alloy wheels. It has Xenon Blue brake callipers and 20-inch brake disks. Customers have a choice of three colours, Carpathian Grey, Yulong White and Santorini Black. The Carpathian Grey and Yulong White come with a roof in Narvik Black.

The Defender V8 Carpathian Edition comes in Carpathian Grey with a Narvik Black roof, bonnet and boot door. While the new Defender XS Edition features exterior and interior treatment available in both 90 and 110 body designs.

New Land Rover Defender V8

The XS Edition is available with a choice of powerful powertrains, including a 2.0-litre D240 diesel and 3.0-litre P400 petrol.

Pricing for the new Defender V8 and XS models will be unveiled closer to the time it launches in South Africa.
