This horrible man dragged his dog alongside his sportscar
A businessman from Knysna that dragged his dog alongside his sportscar last year has been given a fine of R40 000 and a 12 month prison sentence after he pleaded guilty to the act of animal abuse.
The sentence has however been suspended for five years.
The court also stated that the 67-year-old man, Petrus Meyer, has to make a R20 000 donation to the Knysna Animal Welfare Centre.
Meyer dragged the female Ridgeback dog alongside his sportscar, while the dog was still attached on her leash in the area of Brenton-on-Lake. Some of the residents noticed this and one person took the dog to the vet to be cared for afterwards.
After the incident, Meyer had to give his dogs, Gina and Benji, up for adoption. Benji has been adopted by a family in George, and Gina (the female Ridgeback) is in foster care after being operated on.
