Toyota recall – Find out if this affects you!
A Toyota recall has been confirmed this week and it’s reported that as many as 6.5 million vehicles globally will be affected. The Toyota recall is due to a glitch with some of their prominent models’ electric windows, which presents a potential fire risk.
Toyota South Africa has confirmed several of its local vehicles are affected by this glitch. These local vehicles affected, will need to be recalled in order to fix the glitch and prevent any potential fire risk!
This Toyota recall is just the latest in a series for the Japanese carmaker and isn’t the first time the company is recalling cars over a faulty window switch. In 2012, more than 7.4 million cars were recalled for almost the exact same glitch.
Add this to the growing list of recalls, that include 2.9 million vehicles recalled in the U.S. over the faulty Takata airbag issue in June this year. As well as six million vehicles being recalled – in order to fix a range of safety issues last year and then the 2009 recall over malfunctioning brakes, which affected more than 7 million vehicles.
Some 60 709 local cars are affected by the Toyota recall, including:
Corolla (2006 -2010)
Auris (2006-2008)
Yaris (2006- 2010)
RAV4 (2006-2010)
Wheels24 reports that Toyota claim as many as 75% of these vehicles have already received ‘service action’ at a Toyota dealer in South Africa thus far.
So what does this ‘service action’ entail? Toyota stated that,
“The remedial action involves inspecting the window switch board and applying heat-resistant grease to the switch to ensure smooth operation. If necessary, the switchboard is also replaced.”
“At this stage it is not yet clear how many additional South African vehicles will be affected by the current international recall action. Toyota South Africa Motors will make this information available as soon as confirmation of the potentially affected vehicles is received from TMC.”
