Uber needs your help!
We have done many posts on Uber and their great service. We are in no way endorsed by Uber, I am not sponsored in any way by Uber, but as editor of a motoring site for women, I feel that it is my duty to inform you of services I believe to be safe, reliable and convenient…but mostly safe! And Uber is one such service.
I am sure there are people who have had some negative experiences with Uber, but like we posted last week, these incidents need to be reported so that Uber can do something about it.
But nothing can be as bad as what as happened to close friends of mine when getting in to unmarked taxis. You will remember my friend who was kidnapped from Kloof Street in Cape Town and my other friend who was kidnapped from Loop Street.
I utilise Uber’s services at least five to six times a week and I have never once felt unsafe. I often travel in them alone, late at night. I have had issues with them being late or perhaps not as polite as usual, but I would rather deal with these issues than gamble with my safety! I have also reported any bad experiences and Uber has always dealt with them immediately and with feedback.
Uber is now in trouble in Cape Town and they need your help. Please Sign this petition and let’s show the government that we will not accept a service that we love and trust to be hit with so much red tape that regulation destroys much-needed jobs!
The Marketing Manager for Uber South Africa had this to say, “Regulation in the Western Cape, aggressive intimidation, and impoundments are threatening job creation and preventing Uber driver partners from offering safe and reliable rides.
Despite over a year of progressive discussions with regulators, there is still no clear route to obtaining vehicle operating permits for Uber driver partners.
A process that should take no longer than a few weeks has been dragging on for over 6 months. While operating licenses have been issued to large metered taxi fleet operators, not a single operating permit has been issued to an Uber partner.
Uber Cape Town needs your support. Don’t let regulation destroy thousands of jobs. Sign our petition and tell Mayor patricia De Lille and Premier Helen Zille why YOU NEED UBER!!!”
