You’ll soon be able to pay your traffic fines from your phone
Life just became a whole lot easier as the City of Cape Town is introducing yet another convenient way to receive and pay for your traffic fines. According to CapeMessenger the roll-out of smart SMS technology will allow motorists to pay fines via their cellphones, tablets or personal computers.
Earlier this week (July 2016) Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security Councillor JP Smith told Cape Talk that they’ve always had a number of third party payment options where motorists could pay online through various websites.
But this option will make things even easier as notifications of outstanding fines will be sent to motorists via text messages. The text will include a link which will direct the mobile user to a Smartphone payment option.
Fines and summons’s will still be sent the usual way for the traditional mailing of first notices via the South African Post Office. Motorists still have the option to queue up at Post Offices to pay their fines should they choose.
Smith also said that the new Smart Fine system will assist the City of Cape Town and motorists in keeping up to date with outstanding fines and provide a better way of monitoring this.
The system isn’t completely active just yet but you can get a basic idea of it by checking out the pilot page here.
