The Volvo V40 Cross Country AWD gets a powertrain upgrade
I have been very open about the love I have for my long term test car, the Volvo V40 Cross Country. Well now, this model has received a little nip/tuck in the engine department.
The Cross Country will soon be available with the new 180 kW T5 Drive-E engine with the added capability of AWD.
“Volvo Cars is continuing to evolve the V40 Cross Country with this powertrain upgrade. The combination of the Drive-E T5 engine with AWD will give adventurous customers the power to explore, and all the control they need to be confident in all road conditions,” says Dr. Peter Mertens, Senior Vice President Research & Development at Volvo Cars.
Volvo’s new 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifts will add to the luxurious appeal of the V40. And with 350 N.m of torque, you aren’t left wanting more power and performance.
Volvo’s four-cylinder Drive-E engines, introduced last year, have been widely praised for their unique ability to combine power with efficiency. The V40 T5 AWD’s emissions have been reduced to 149 g/km which is less than that of its competitors.
This impressive model is expected to arrive in SA early next year. Pricing will be confirmed closer to the time.
