Electric safari vehicle donated to conservation efforts in Kenya

A team of engineers from Sunreef Yachts, a Polish yachting manufacturer, built an electric safari vehicle and donated it to the Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust.

The fully electric vehicle (EV), equipped with solar panels on the roof, is much more environmentally friendly than your ordinary petrol or diesel safari truck. A state-of-the-art electric engine and robust battery bank power the vehicle.

The EV will be used by a lodge in Kenya that works alongside the Trust to directly benefit local Maasai communities.

“The world increasingly relies on many traditional communities like the Maasai to protect the ecological treasures that exist within the land that they own. But the incredible wilderness and wildlife of Africa’s grasslands and the famous culture of the Maasai people both face daunting threats to their long-term survival. The fate of both rests with the Maasai themselves as they work to figure out how to benefit from their incredible natural resources while preserving them,” says the Trust’s website.

Using the body of an off-road classic vehicle, Sunreef Yachts’ mechanical and R&D teams worked tirelessly to create a car that brings their knowledge of green tech to life.

“The shipyard’s Founder and President was directly involved in the project, sharing his expertise coming from numerous 4×4 races in which took part on board customized vehicles of his own design,” said their website.
