Zero Tolerance approach for motorists who ignore the rules of the road this festive season
555 drunk drivers were arrested this past weekend in Johannesburg as a zero-tolerance approach to those who disobey the rules of the road this festive season.
Today, IOL reported that JMPD spokesperson Wayne Minnaar, said that the drunk drivers were all detained at various police stations in Johannesburg and had to pay bail of up to R2500, but only after three to six hours in holding.

Minnaar states that many similar operations will continue until the end of January next year.
“Last week Transport Minister Joe Maswanganyi said that his department planned to improve road safety over the festive season through more visible policing as well as mobile testing stations. He also admitted that the practice of officers hiding to catch speeding motorists was counter-productive as it antagonised citizens that are normally law-abiding,” says IOL.
Women on Wheels would further like to urge all our readers to stay safe on the roads this festive season. Plan your outings carefully and make use of ride-sharing options if you plan on drinking.
