Road safety advocates unite once again to provide support to motorists this holiday period
5 December 2017; Today, road safety advocates, IMPERIAL, and Hyundai Automotive South Africa, announced that they will again partner with the Bakwena N1N4 concessionaire to drive road safety awareness and provide additional patrol support on the N1N4 route this festive season. This partnership comes in the wake of calls by the Minister of Transport, Joe Maswanganyi “that road safety is not negotiable and that it is everyone’s responsibility”.
“There’s no denying that the state of road safety in South Africa is of great concern, and as a leader in mobility, our partnership with Hyundai Automotive South Africa and the Bakwena N1N4 concessionaire provides us with a great opportunity to get directly involved in continuing our drive to make road safety a priority both during the year and again, during this holiday period, says Berenice Francis, Group Commercial Executive at IMPERIAL.
“Our partnership with the N1N4 Bakwena concessionaire dates back to 2012, and has grown from strength to strength, and more importantly, has created safer roads for travellers during periods of heightened risk on the roads”.
Earlier this year, Hyundai Automotive South Africa jumped on board as the official vehicle sponsor and as part of this role again this season, the brand will hand over 6 vehicles to the Bakwena N1N4 toll route, to be used between 5 December 2017 – 10th January 2018. These vehicles will provide Road Incident Management Services with the necessary resources to increase and boost route surveillance, patrol support and roadside assist services on this route.
Historically, the Bakwena N1N4 toll route has recorded some of the highest volumes of traffic nationwide, and as such, it is imperative that officials operating along this route have adequate resources to support motorists travelling on this route, effectively.
Charmaine van Wyk, PR officer for Bakwena adds; “It takes a great deal of effort to be able to create a safe transport passage for road users, particularly when the occurrence of road crashes are at their highest. As such, we are most grateful for the ongoing support received from IMPERIAL Road Safety and Hyundai Automotive South Africa in empowering Road Incident Management Services to be able to meet the road safety needs of motorists over this time.”
As with previous years, the Bakwena N1N4 toll route will also adopt an uncompromising approach to drinking and driving, speeding, and general road negligence. To do this effectively, they will be working closely with Traffic Authorities to carry out regular enforcement along this route in order to clamp down on any such irresponsible behaviour – all with the aim of creating safer roads for all.
“The success of our previous involvement in this initiative truly reinforced the importance of combined efforts in addressing South Africa’s road safety pandemic. We therefore look forward to witnessing the significant contribution that it will make in the lives of road users during this period”, concludes Oscar Makola, Marketing Director at Hyundai Automotive South Africa.
