Would you stop texting and driving if you were rewarded for it?
Each day (in the United States alone) around 1 153 are injured in crashes that involve texting and driving. This year so far more than 12 000 people have died on SA roads. So, if people aren’t going to stop texting and driving, there needs to be another way to solve this issue.
A group of IT guys from Romania and the Netherlands thought a reward-app would solve this. As opposed to finding a device that police would use to catch those who are texting while driving, Romania’s ”SafeDrive” app wants to encourage good behaviour by giving points to those that drive responsibly. You can later use these points for discounts on products and services.
Each user creates an account and starts earning points by loading it up before they start their car. Depending on how long the trip is, drivers gather up points. The only thing they can’t do is touch the phone. If they do, the app warns them that they will lose any points gained for the journey if they chose to continue.
