Western Cape Traffic Department warns Cape Town motorists
Recently, Die Burger reported that The Western Cape Traffic Department has warned Cape Town motorists that crimes could and would probably increase over the stretch of the festive season.
Motorists have been undergoing serious criminal behavior from the beginning of 2014 – especially between the off ramp to Khayelitsha and Cape Town International Airport.
Here are the outlined spots where you should be vigilant:
Recently, tourists from Gauteng endured harassment and bottles being thrown at their car en route from the airport – not a nice way to start the festive season!
Kenny Africa, head of the Western Cape Traffic Department, said the N2 is a gigantic headache for traffic services:
“Motorists should if possible not stop in this area. Drive past rocks and other objects , and do not stop to remove it from the road,” he said.
“I also advise motorists to use alternative routes . We are ready, but motorists should also help us,” he said .
Follow these tips to ensure your safety on the N2 :
1. Never drive over boxes or plastic bags – it coud severely damage your car.
2. Be especially aware of the environment around you, especially in the evening.
3. Always drive in the right hand lane.
4. If you drive over a large object don’t stop, rather drive on to the nearest petrol station.
5. It is a good idea to cover the surface of car windows with protective film to avoid smash-and-grab thieves.
6. Download all the contact numbers of the police and emergency services on your phone .
