What are your thoughts on the shocking footage of a driver being flung from his car on the N2
Shocking dashcam footage of a recent N2 crash that took place in Cape Town went viral this week.
The footage uploaded onto YouTube shows the BMW appear from the left lane, clipping the front of a silver Kia Picanto as it makes its way across the highway, close to the Langa off-ramp, Rekord East reported.
The BMW then smashes into the concrete barrier, sending a passenger high into the air. The passenger, who it was later established is Cape Town actor, Thabang Sidloyi, was not wearing a seatbelt and passed away due to his injuries.
According to IOL, two of the other passengers sustained minor injuries, one escaped unharmed while the other is still recovering in Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town.
YouTube user Alex Williamson posted the video after the incident had been filmed on his dashcam.
The World Health Organisation (WHO), which regards South Africa as one of the world’s worst countries for road safety, said safety belts were 99% effective in preventing occupants from being ejected from the vehicle in a crash. This means if the driver had been wearing a seatbelt, he might have survived.
We want to know if you think the footage should have been loaded on to the internet and if it is ok for news sites etc to repost it? If this was your loved one, would you be ok with the ‘shock tactic’ technique that is being used? Trying to shock people in to wearing a seatbelt.
