Diesel vehicles: yay or nay?
Advantages over Petrol Engines
A diesel engine has a longer life expectancy than a petrol engine, due to its stronger internal design. This is to handle the high pressure under its combustion. In humid climate areas a diesel engine is more reliable because it doesn’t have HT leads, coils and spark plugs. For this reason it produces less heat in cooling and heating the exhaust.
Diesel cars are more fuel efficient, thereby proving better for the environment and your wallet. If the car is fitted with a diesel particulate filter, it will trap the emissions that are associated with diesel. An increased torque means that the car has more pulling power from lower revs, which will come in handy when towing another vehicle or in the case of overtaking.
Even pre- owned cars in the diesel market can be a better deal.
They are strong contenders in the range of best second hand cars. As noted by Business Insider: “There are fewer diesel cars on the market, so used ones command higher prices. They are also tremendously fuel efficient. It’s a big selling point when gas prices are so high. Demand is outpacing supply.”
Disadvantages over Petrol Engines:
Diesel engines weigh heavier than petrol engines due to the internal component strength. Normally the diesel vehicles have a noisier and rougher operation, but with high end cars, you won’t find it to be the case. Diesel has come a long way and are almost on par with technological advancements.
You will also find that diesel cars are more expensive to purchase and to maintain, because of its strong components and its regular service schedules. If you neglect to maintain a diesel car, and the fuel injection system breaks down, you will end up paying your mechanic to fix the parts that have become damaged.
