This will give parents of new drivers peace of mind
Has your child recently obtained their licence? Are you on the verge of a nervous breakdown about it? Worrying if they are driving too fast or have decided a seatbelt just doesn’t look cool. Ford has got you covered with its MyKey.
The MyKey enables parents to program one of their car keys to a restricted driving mode setting, one that is intended to promote good habits such as wearing a seatbelt, limiting your speed and (much to your kids horror) decreasing the audio volume to ensure attention is paid to the road and not the blaring music.
Here are some benefits of the MyKey:
Belt-Minder:
If the driver’s seatbelt is unfastened while driving, Belt-Minder provides a six-second reminder chime every 30 seconds and mutes the audio system until the vehicle’s front occupants fasten their safety belts. The message centre also displays a “Buckle Up to Unmute Radio” message to make sure that the young driver is clear on what is expected of them and their passengers. This feature should bring peace of mind both to the parents of the driver and to the parents of the passengers travelling with the driver.
Top Speed Settings:
MyKey allows you to limit a vehicle’s top speed at different settings, with chimes sounding to alert the driver prior to even reaching the set speeds.
Earlier low-fuel warning:
MyKey provides a warning at 120km-to-empty, rather than the standard warning at 80km-to-empty in an attempt to remind the driver to stop for fuel and to assist the driver to manage his or her fuel consumption until a petrol station can be located.
MyKey is available in the following Ford models: the Ford Fiesta, new Ford Focus and the Ford Fusion.
