TOW BARS FOR THOSE TRICKY MOMENTS
We’ve all been there.
Stuck in peak-hour traffic and the engine starts to make that sound, the deep groan and spluttering that means you best get on the phone to your friends because your plans are now cancelled!
As your car’s engine finally gives up and your face turns a darker shade of beetroot as the inevitable hooting begins, you start to imagine how much the tow truck bill will come to. There goes next month’s holiday to the West Coast!
Then you suddenly remember that last Christmas your dad forced you to invest in a tow bar for moments just like these. With a bit of luck, a Good Samaritan will stop and help you to get to the nearest garage.
It seems odd that drivers often overlook the importance of a tow bar when they spend so much time making sure their spare tyres are in good working order.
Generally tow bars are pretty simple apparatus, but fittings do vary from one vehicle to the next.
There are three main types of tow bar that are available on the market.
Flange: This involves a tow ball being bolted to a tow bar, and is always fixed to the vehicle.
Swan neck: This tow bar is the same as the flange, except the neck looks more like the detachable system.
Detachable: This detaches from your car and easily be placed in the boot.
Depending on what you use your vehicle for, tow wiring may be required.
Installing wiring is the trickiest bit, as you may need to remove some interior panels to fit it correctly. There could be some cutting involved as well, so if you feel that the job is beyond you, there are plenty of specialists who can assist.
Of course while tow bars are the proverbial lifesavers when your vehicle decides to leave you in the lurch, they have many other uses as well.
For anyone with a boat, they are an absolute must of course.
But tow bars can also take a lot of the pain and expense out of moving home. Hiring movers can be a costly affair, so the ability to attach a sizeable trailer onto your vehicle will do wonders for your bank account.
The same can be said for tow bars’ role in making home improvements. While most people like to make improvements over the holidays, the availability of labourers is frequently a problem.
So the ability to cart all the goods you need for the job in a trailer, even if it means several return trips to the home ware or hardware store, again saves you time and money.
