Driving review: Volkswagen up!

VW up!

This has to be one of the most talked about cars of the year. We have waited patiently for the Volkswagen up! to reach our shores and finally it is here! And boy, do we love it.

This cute-as-a-button budget car sits just under the Volkswagen Polo Vivo. It is not a replacement for the much-loved Citi Golf but it is now VW’s entry level offering. Coming in at just over R130 000, it is most certainly one of our top picks.

The 1,0 three cylinder petrol engine produces 55 kW of power which is perfect for around town. In fact, if you were in need of a pure city car, this would be ideal. It is just so nippy. And if you love a Polo, you will love how this car drives. It feels as solid and as comfortable as a Polo does. And with a fuel consumption of just 4,7l/100 km you will have fewer sleepless nights worrying about the ever-present fuel hikes.

I reviewed the up! for Ignition TV so for more information and to see exactly what this cutie looks like, watch the video.
