“Put me first. Drive phone free” is the slogon for the New Zealand Transport Authority’s campaign to stop texting and driving.

Even I’m trying to avoid using my phone while driving, because I know how incredibly frustrating it is when you’re the passenger of a friend/driver who can’t help but check their phone every time it flashes or makes a noise.

Why do we do it?

We all know that you can also be heavily fined or have your phone confiscated by law enforcement officials if you’re caught using your phone while driving. Not to mention the dangers that are caused by distracted drivers using their phones. So why do we still do it?

“Friends, please don’t kill me”

If you’ve ever been the passenger when your friend/family member/partner etc decides to check their phone while driving you’ve probably noticed the effect it has on their driving skills. For me, they’re usually the ones driving slightly over the line or suddenly having to brake because they weren’t focusing on the road in front of them.

The video suggests a brilliant way to make it awkward for a driver to check their phone while driving. It’s a great skit, typical of New Zealand humour with the help of Lionel Ritchie’s classic, ‘Hello”.
