Although our country has its problems there’s nothing better than seeing South African creatives make us proud, internationally.

You might have come across the popular Honda ad with the singing sheep imitating a familiar scene from Happy Feet.

The Honda advert that featured at one of the biggest advertising events of the year in The US, ‘Superbowl Sunday‘, was all thanks to a young South African art director.

Matthew Pullen began his career at Ogivily & Mather, Cape Town, before being contacted by an independent agency in Los Angeles, California where he’s since been making a name for himself.

Media Update reported that before he was contacted he had been working with various brands at Ogilvy like Audi, Coca-Cola, Sun International and WWF to name a few.

“I wasn’t actively looking for anything and was quite comfortable at Ogilvy Cape Town working on a wide range of business with my partner Dean Paradise. The only thing in the ether was my Behance portfolio and work that was featured on Bestadsontv.com and other advertising websites like adsoftheworld.com and the award show websites,” Pullen says. “Out of the blue, I was contacted on LinkedIn by Rubin Postaer & Associations, an independent agency based in Santa Monica, Los Angeles, California.”

Pullen has been working closely with award-winning writer Audrey Attal on the national Honda account.

Today, the ad has 7,731,345 Youtube views.
