Say hello to the new F1 safety and medical cars for the 2021 season

It looks like Formula 1 will be making a few new additions to the family in the form of brand-new safety and medical cars. F1 announced that both Aston Martin and Mercedes-AMG will officially supply Safety Cars and Medical Cars to the FIA Formula One World Championship for the 2021 season.

Both Aston Martin and Mercedes-AMG will alternate the supply of the vehicles at each race in 2021, with this being the first time in 25 years that different vehicle manufacturers have supplied the official vehicles.

Aston Martin will run a specially equipped version of their Vantage – the most powerful model in the luxury British brand’s production range – for its safety car, while the Aston Martin DBX will fulfil the carmaker’s medical car commitment.

Mercedes-AMG on the other hand will run their Mercedes-AMG GT R and Mercedes-AMG C 63 S Estate vehicles as their safety car and medical car respectively, with both sporting a brand-new look for 2021.

“We are very pleased to announce our new partnership with both Aston Martin and Mercedes-AMG to provide the Official Safety and Medical Cars to the FIA Formula One World Championship. Aston Martin and Mercedes-AMG are iconic automotive brands, and we are proud of their place in our incredible sport,” said Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO, Formula 1.

In terms of power output, The racing green Vantage Safety Car is powered by a 4.0l twin-turbo V8 engine, managing 0-100km/h in just 3.5 seconds. The DBX Medical Car will reach 0-100km/h in 4.5 seconds with 700NM of torque from the same engine as the Vantage.

The AMG GT R has a 4.0l biturbo V8 and can reach 0-100km/h in 3.6 seconds, while the C 63 S Estate is modified with FIA-spec medical equipment, as is the DBX.
