Land Rover Defender wins Women's World Car of the year

The Land Rover Defender has been crowned the winner of the Women’s World Car of the year 2021.

This is the first time the manufacturer has received this accolade, with the model being the most capable Land Rover ever made.

The Women’s World Car of the year awards is the only car awards in the world with a jury made up of woman with 50 motoring journalists from 38 countries that recognise new models.

The new Land Rover Defender has been named the Best Medium SUV for 2021 at the awards ceremony.

Marta García, Executive President Women’s World Car of the Year said, “The legend has been updated. The Land Rover Defender is no longer just an SUV to cross the Amazon or go into the desert. Its latest reinvention invites you to travel by road in the same comfort as a luxury saloon. For this reason, and for its technology and comfort it has been chosen as the Best Car of the Year by the Women’s World Car of the Year.”

The Land Rover Defender is extremely spacious and offers five, six, or 5+2 seating configurations that can easily accommodate six occupants and could easily be a comfortable SUV to cart the family around. Experts at Euro NCAP gave the Defender model a maximum five-star safety rating.

Buyers are given an optional choice of either Ingenium petrol or cleaner diesel engines ensuring power, control and how efficient it is for the environment.

A plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle powertrain provides EV progress of up to 43 km.

The Defender family now boasts its Defender 90 and Defender 110, while the new 386 kW Defender V8 combines the character and capability of Land Rover with its performance and chassis setting for various driver engagement.

Since the Defender was launched, the model has won more than 50 global accolades including  Top Gear’s 2020 Car of the Year, Motortrend’s 2021 SUV of the year and Autocar’s Best SUV 2020.
