Women gives birth to baby in JHB traffic
News24 has reported that a father who was caught in early morning traffic in Joburg while rushing his pregnant wife to hospital was forced to deliver his daughter himself after his wife went in to labour.
Fortunately, the baby girl, named Julile, was delivered safely and as the family arrived at the Olivedale Hospital in Randburg the baby was lying on the mother’s chest, swaddled in a towel.
News24 reports that the mother, Tshepiso Mbambisa, began to feel uncomfortable on Wednesday, January 27, at about 1:00. She thought she was experiencing Braxton Hicks contractions which are a normal aspect of late pregnancy. The father became concerned when the contractions became more regular and so decided it was time to go to the hospital. But, they hit morning traffic.
“Mr Mbambisa had to park on the side of the road, and ultimately delivered his daughter himself at approximately 07:15,” said Bets Welman, GM of Netcare Olivedale Hospital.
The baby, who weighed 2.8kgs, was placed in a crib while her mother was helped into a wheelchair and admitted to the maternity ward.
“The proud parents have named their little bundle of joy Julile, and both mother and baby are doing very well,” Welman said.
