Gear up with Sue Duminy
1. What was your first car?
My first car was a very green 1.2 Fiat Palio
2. What do you drive now?
Audi S5 Coupe and BMW X5
3. Do you think the car a guy drives says something about him?
For Sure! As with your clothing I think your car is an extension of your personality and who you are. A clean, well looked after car speaks volumes..
4. Name three cars you would have in your fantasy garage?
I’m a sucker for extremely fast, pimped out supercars or SUV’s.
Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Mansory Renovatio in white with a red interior.
Ferrari Sergio Pininfarina
Lamborghini Urus – to take the dogs to the beach
And a Jeep Hurricane – I just love how they designed the steering system which allows the car to move sideways or turn in a circle on the spot! That will come in handy when attempting to parallel park in town!
5. What music are you listening to in your car at the moment?
My ipod is on shuffle but something along the lines of Happy by Pharrell Williams, Pumped up kicks – Foster the people and Get lucky – Daft Punk
6. Who are better drivers; men or women?
I feel very bad saying this but men! (except me hahaha)
7. If you could be sponsored by a manufacturer, which one would it be and why?
Probably BMW, just have to have the option of choosing anything from a convertible, sedan or roadster to a SUV. I bought a Z3 convertible with my first paycheck and from then on I have been a massive BMW fan. Its cars are trustworthy and luxurious but also economical and safe. There are plenty of dealerships around so parts are easy to find and services are super quick!
8. What’s the best driving advice you have ever received?
Probably from my dad, he told me to always expect the worst when driving and always think for other people. Most of the time it will be someone else driving into you or skipping a red light. If the light is green I will slow down and still look left and right.
9. What three tips would you give for better driving?
Stay in your lane when taking a turn, most of the time people assume they can just change lanes without looking.
Have patience and give way.
Don’t drink and drive, don’t text or speak on your cellphone and don’t speed – those are the most common causes of road accidents. Even if you are an experienced driver and you are speeding, 90% of the time it will be something out of your control that will cause an accident, like a tyre that burst or a dog or pedestrian that ran in front of the car.
10. What is your pet hate on the road?
Slow drivers in the fast lane, drivers that don’t give you a gap when your indicator is on and when people don’t indicate when they turn.
