The optional Suzuki Ignis Infotainment system 2017
In May this year, Suzuki Auto launched the quirky Suzuki Ignis in three derivatives on the South African market.
The Ignis is available in GL and GLX specification levels, and buyers of the higher spec GLX derivative can choose between a five-speed manual or automatic gearbox. Both specification levels feature luxuries such as electric windows, an MP3-compatible CD player and air conditioning. The GLX adds a host of features, such as automatic air conditioning, Bluetooth connectivity and a push-button Stop / Start system.
Apart from its range of standard features, the Ignis introduced a new level of customisation to Suzuki, including cosmetic, comfort and in-car entertainment features. Customers can add personal touches, such as various coloured interior garnishes, roof racks and bicycle carriers and even rear USB charging ports.
One of the very popular optional features is a double-DIN-sized touch-screen multimedia system with a 6.2” WVGA display. The full colour screen allows for direct control of iPhones and iPods via Bluetooth, as well as limited controls of certain Android smartphones*.
The optional system is also equipped with Pioneer Audio’s MIXTRAX software, which expertly mixes the music on your phone, iPod or memory stick using DJ effects to enhance and transition between songs. MIXTRAX can also be controlled with a downloadable smartphone app.
For users who prefer to stream their music from the Internet, this optional audio system can integrate the Spotify app, which allows listeners to skip tracks and browse playlists, albums and radio stations.

Lastly, for audiophiles, the touch-screen system can process high-fidelity Free Lossless Audio Files (FLAC), provided that they are loaded on a memory stick and plugged into the Ignis USB port. FLAC files allow for up to 24-bit audio encoding, which in turn gives the listener more audio adjustment options, including with a 13-channel digital equaliser.
The system is also satnav-ready and it can function as a full turn-by-turn navigation system when equipped with South African road maps on the optional plug in satnav unit.
* It was previously erroneously reported that the Ignis optional touch screen infotainment system can fully integrate with Andriod Auto. Please note that this is not the case and that the system offers limited control of Android and iOS mobile systems from the touch screen via Bluetooth.
