83-year-old falls victim to vicious road rage attack!
An 83-year-old was brutally attacked by a motorist in KZN over this past weekend. Sanco described this incident of road rage as a “heinous brutal assault”.
“We are concerned about the barbaric incident and lawlessness that is targeted at the vulnerable in our communities and appeal to members of the public to assist police in their investigations to bring the road bully to book.”
Sanco (South African National Civic Organisation) national spokesman, Jabu Mahlangu stated.
Mahlangu wished the victim of this road rage attack – who is currently in a critical, but stable condition – a speedy recovery.
Spokesman of Crisis Medical, Kyle van Reenen said on Saturday that the 83-year-old man was struggling for his life, following the road rage attack.
He was assaulted after a minor road accident on Friday night. Paramedics were called to the scene, where they could see a motor vehicle collision had taken place. This took place on Inanda Road in Newlands, Durban, around 20:00. The two vehicles had collided, but there was very little, or no damage to either vehicle.
“Following the collision, it is alleged that the occupants of one of the vehicles assaulted and beat the elderly driver of the other before fleeing the scene. The elderly man was found lying on the roadway heavily disoriented and in a serious condition,” he said.
The man was placed onto a specialised stretcher after intermediate life support was required to stabilise him. The paramedics suspected neck and spinal cord injuries and he was taken by ambulance to the nearest hospital for immediate medical attention. He remains in a serious but stable condition.
“The exact facts pertaining to the incident are not confirmed and are unclear and will form the subject of a South African Police Service investigation,” Van Reenen said.
