Bentley to go fully electric by 2030

Luxury car maker Bentley has announced it will stop making petrol cars from 2030, going fully electric instead.

The company aims to be completely carbon neutral in its manufacturing as well, taking an impressive step forward in the fight against climate change.

The process is planned to be gradual, with the company aiming to stop making stand alone internal combustion engines in the next six years, moving to hybrids and eventually reaching fully electric cars in 2025.

Unlike other companies which aim to improve their carbon footprint with carbon offsetting, Bentley aims to be “end-to-end carbon neutral organisation”.

“Within a decade, Bentley will transform from a 100-year-old luxury car company to a new, sustainable, wholly ethical role model for luxury,” Adrian Hallmark, Bentley’s chief executive told The Guardian.

This shift is part of Bentley’s overall Beyond100 plan. This plan aims to bring Bentley into a more stable and certain future with two goals: Become a resilient, carbon neutral company and be recession-proof.

“Driving this change includes, and also goes beyond our products, delivering a paradigm shift throughout our business, with credibility, authenticity, and integrity. Within a decade, Bentley will transform from a 100 year old luxury car company to a new, sustainable, wholly ethical role model for luxury,” said Hallmark.
