Drunk driver crashes into roadblock, damages two patrol cars
It’s been reported that a drunk driver who was ‘so gesuip’ that he crashed into a police roadblock, has damaged two patrol vehicles. IOL news also reported that four traffic officers sustained slight injuries, in the early hours of Sunday morning before the driver was arrested for drunk driving.
The incident occurred at 4:22am on 35th Avenue and Lavis Road, Cape town.
“Meanwhile, JP Smith says Metro Police responded to two collisions in the Cape Town CBD and Kayelitsha and in both instances found that drivers were under the influence of alcohol,” reported IOL.
The Department of Transport recently introduced the 24/7 availability of traffic officers in a plan to increase the number of law enforcers on public roads as well as to declare traffic law enforcement an essential service.

According to the Automobile Association (AA) the plan is set to enable the department to ensure the availability of traffic officers on a 24-hour basis, every day of the year. While this brings a fair amount of reassurance to motorists who feel unsafe travelling on roads like the N2, perhaps the increase in availability of traffic officers will help curb South Africa’s drinking and driving problem.
