Heroin smuggled overseas in a Jaguar X-Type
Everyday people get new ways to smuggle drugs into countries, and everyday they get caught. This was just another one of those days as an X-ray reportedly revealed about £37m (over R600m) worth of heroin that had been concealed inside a car that was being imported.
The heroin hidden all over the X-type Jaguar was imported on a container ship from Pakistan. The vehicle had no ignition, no electrics and could not be driven, but was “rammed” with 316 packets of heroin, weighing a total of 230kg.
During the trial, the jury heard that documents had been prepared by a man in Karachi to get the car passed through customs, saying the vehicle was due for repairs.
Two suspects were found guilty of trying to supply Class A drugs and a third was acquitted. The two that were found guilty were jailed for 21 and 18 years.
