Lotus returns to the South African motor market

Daytona South Africa will be the sole importer of Lotus vehicles. The all-electric Evija, will be the marquee car on its lineup.

The British sports car manufacturer, Lotus previously imported vehicles to South Africa but difficult economic conditions prompted the automaker to retract its operations from the country, according to Wheels24.

Daytona, which is also the sole importer of Aston Martin, McLaren, Pagani and Rolls-Royce,  will reunite South Africans with the highly-esteemed brand.

“Being appointed as the new sole distributor for this prestigious brand, a brand well-known and loved by South Africans, is truly exciting,” said CEO of Daytona, Justin Divaris.

“We strongly believe that Lotus will complacent our current brand mix and offering to our clients, and we look forward to what the future holds for this partnership.”

The Evija runs on a pure electric powertrain that drives all four wheels. The car, which is meant to be the most powerful production car in the world, produces 1700Nm of torque via a 70kWh/2000kW battery.

The vehicle is capable of clocking 100km/h in less than three seconds and 300km/h in under nine seconds. It can reach a top speed of 320km/h.

It takes 18 minutes to complete a full charge, provided a 350kW charger is used.

The car’s production will begin in 2021, according to Lotus.

The Lotus showroom will be located in Melrose Arch, Johannesburg at Daytona’s 4000sqm premises.
