Subaru to launch its first electric car

Subaru will release its first electric car built on a platform called e-TNGA which it co-developed with Toyota. The Japanese manufacturer confirmed the new vehicle will be an SUV and it will go on sale in Europe first.

The new vehicle, which is rumoured to be called Evoltis, is expected to bear a likeness to the existing combustion engine driven Subaru Forester.

The e-TNGA platform is designed for vehicles of different lengths and can be used for front-, rear- and four-wheel-drive layouts, and can accept multiple battery sizes, according to Auto Car.

Though the new EV has a long way to go before release, Subaru displayed an electric concept car (pictured) at a technology briefing in January of this year and by the looks of it, Subaru-fans are in for an ultra-modern look and feel when it arrives.

The company was vague to confirm a date but said it expects to launch the electric model in the “first half of this decade”.
