WOW readers have a magical CRUZE

The Chevrolet Cruze was just one of a sensational line-up of Chevrolet products that WOW readers put through their paces at an uber fab and utterly unique event in Cape Town recently.

For the first time in the history of WOW, we gathered a collection of the finest wheels on the road and then partnered them with haute cuisine par excellence… to offer readers a truly unforgettable day characterised by South Africa’s most exciting cars, sensational vistas, gourmet meals and… of course… lots of fun and laughter.

The event kicked off at the luxurious 15 on Orange in Cape Town’s city centre, where the illustrious group – including a smattering of celebs of course (such as popular DJ Stephanie Bee from Good Hope FM) – were tempted by culinary sensations such as miniature croissants, smoked salmon and wonderfully fresh fruit. Hosts Associated Magazines and Chevrolet introduced the day’s activities, which all centred on the cars. While en route, readers were invited to enjoy 2oceansvibe radio, which was treating guests to a selection of music prepared especially for the WOW event. Later, 2oceansvibe radio played requests sent by those on the WOW “cruze” and WOW followers on Twitter (cyberspace was rather crowded, with all the excited tweets during the day!)

As we have pointed out, the day centred on the cars – and what an utterly delectable line-up. Naturally the Cruze and Lumina were there, but two of the stars of the motoring show were undoubtedly the significantly restyled and refreshed Chevrolet Captiva sports utility vehicle (SUV) and Orlando, an all-new seven-seater compact Chevrolet multi-purpose vehicle (MPV).

Readers loved the Captiva’s fresh new look, interior upgrades and improved power trains… and they were just blown away by the high levels of comfort and low levels of interior noise. The brand new Orlando also proved to be a hit, with readers commenting on the vehicle’s flexibility, chunky styling, luxurious interior and full house of safety features. Many of the WOW readers had families, making safety especially pivotal. As such the Orlando’s 5-star European NCAP rating propelled it to the top of their automotive shopping list.

At lunchtime readers were enticed out of the convoy of Chevrolet’s by the Foodbarn Restaurant, located at Noordhoek Farm Village. The restaurant believes that food should be civilised without being pretentious … that is to say it has natural taste, smells and textures, and much character. Often it looks beautiful too… and our three-course gastronomic wonder certainly fitted the bill in all departments. We feasted on goat’s cheese on guava and ginger compote, line fish in garlic butter, the Foodbarn’s famous rack of lamb and a to-die-for chocolate Swiss roll, swimming in a multitude of yummy sauces…

Then it was a case of wandering over to the gleaming Chevrolets, and more endless vistas en route back to Cape Town… where the perfect day ended with canapés and cocktails at 15 on Orange and, of course, pampering goodie bags to take home.
