Breakthrough in Cape Town N2 hijack case
Finally some light is being shed on the recent hijack/robbery incidents taking place on the N2 near Cape Town International Airport. This is a story we have been following quite closely, as safety is a big issue for WOW- and now we can state, together with some relief, that 6 suspects has been arrested.
Police arrested these 6 suspects for robbing motorists, including a SAA crew member, on the N2 in the past few months. Drivers on the N2 were robbed after being forced to stop because of concrete blocks placed in the road.
Lieutenant-Colonel Andrè Traut said there had been two incidents last week. “Border policing received information from their crime intelligence colleagues about a possible suspect held by members of the local community in Gugulethu, and that he was involved in the recent attacks on the N2.”
The one man was arrested and he then led the police to several other suspects. These suspects have allegedly been involved in the majority of the N2-hijack incidents. The suspects, aged between 23 and 36, would be held in custody until their court appearance in Athlone,” Traut confirmed.
