Free Pre-Easter National Safety Check Campaign

The Constituent association of the Retail Motor Industry organisation (RMI), The National Vehicle Testing Association (NVTA), have come together and made available free safety checks at its national roadworthy centres, from 19 March 2013 until 28 March 2013.

The NVTA has stepped up and provided these life saving tests at no cost to the motoring public. Providing this service is crucial to reducing the number of accidents and fatalities over Easter and the festive season. This move is also in line with RMI’s continued support of the Department of Transport’s Road Safety Campaign, which seeks to reduce these preventable fatalities by 50 percent over the next decade.

The pre-Easter campaign is a safety critical check, not to be confused with a roadworthy evaluation, and inspects the following important components of motor vehicles.

  • All lights (including indicators)
  • Wheel alignment
  • Exhaust
  • Front and rear suspension
  • Steering mechanism (steering control arm, steering box and tie rod ends)
  • Hand-brake
  • Foot-brake
  • Front and rear tyres
  • Wipers
  • Seatbelts
