New headlights won’t blind oncoming drivers!
Blinding headlights! There’s nothing worse than driving towards them in oncoming traffic at night.
And if you’re the driver of a car with bright highbeams you’ve properly had other cars flash their lights and/or hoot and shout at you as they struggle to drive by.
Some drivers opt to driving with dipped headlights just so that they don’t tick off any other drivers. But driving in bad light means that you’re probably straining your eyes while trying to focus on the road.
New Glare-Free Highbeams for headlights!
Ford has introduced new lighting technology that enables drivers to use their high beams without worrying about having angry drivers flash their lights at you because they can’t see the road in front of them.
The new adaptive front lighting system is available with the new Ford S-MAX, Galaxy and Edge/. You’ll be able to adjust the headlight beam angle and intensity according to factors including speed, light and steering angle.
How does it work?
Using a windshield-mounted camera, the new beams are designed to pick up any other lights from oncoming road users and adjust its glare-free beams accordingly, without causing any distraction to other drivers.
“Ask any driver what the most annoying habits of other drivers are and sooner or later the subject of people who don’t dip their headlights will come up,” said Michael Koherr, research engineer, Lighting Systems, Ford of Europe.
What next?
Other future technologies give us so much to look forward to and peace of mind knowing that engineers are creating an easier and safer driving experience for all road users.
Engineers at Ford are currently working on other technologies, some of which can detect and scan road signs and adjust the throttle accordingly to keep drivers aware of the speed limits, to name a few.
