Man buys number plate for $4.9 – million

According to media reports a businessman from the United Arab Emirates has paid $4.9-million (AED18 million) for a car registration plate bearing the number ‘1’ at an auction.
Arif Ahmen al-Zarouni told reporters that his ambition was to always be number one and that this wasn’t the most he’s ever paid for a collector’s number plate.
At the Emirates Number Plate Auction his bid was eighteen times higher than the reserve price.
Zarouni’s plate is for Sharjah, the third-richest emirate.
According to the IndependentUK, back in 2008 someone spent $14.2-million (AED52.2-million) for a ‘number 1’ licence plate.
