Plato made is clear that the attacks along the N2 are organised by thugs – placing sharp objects in the road in order to cause accidents or get drivers to pull over. They then proceed to rob the victims of their possessions. Plato also threw the blame at SANRAL – stating that it was their responsibility to keep the N2 safe. Making sure fencing and lighting and the general maintenance of safety barriers were all up to scratch. He continued by commenting that there would need to be an officer every 500m along the N2 in order to guarantee safety. Requiring resources that neither SAPS nor the traffic services have.
